MIL-F-87260, MILITARY SPECIFICATION: FOAM MATERIAL, EXPLOSION SUPPRESSION, INHERENTLY ELECTROSTATICALLY CONDUCTIVE, FOR AIRCRAFT FUEL TANKS AND DRY BAY AREAS (07-FEB-1992) [S/S BY MIL-PRF-87260A]

MIL-F-87260, MILITARY SPECIFICATION: FOAM MATERIAL, EXPLOSION SUPPRESSION, INHERENTLY ELECTROSTATICALLY CONDUCTIVE, FOR AIRCRAFT FUEL TANKS AND DRY BAY AREAS (07-FEB-1992) [S/S BY MIL-PRF-87260A]., This document covers the requirements for an electrically conductive open-celled foam material that will be used for explosion suppression in aircraft fuel. The materials covered by this specification are intended for use in aircraft and ground vehicles fuel tanks using gasoline or kerosene type fuels at temperatures from -55 5 DEG F to 160 5 DEG F for explosion and fire suppression. There are two classes of foam: Class 1 can be used from +10 DEG to +160 DEG F; Class 2 can be used from -25 DEG to +160 DEG F. Temperatures greater than 160 DEG F and high humidity conditions will shorten the service life. These materials are intended to replace all the currently used foams qualified under MIL-DTL-83054. The advantages of these conductive materials include potentially longer service life and reduced incidents of electrostatic charge generation, discharge, and vapor ignitions that were experienced with the previous polyester/polyether materials.
